Kits to convert your Shovelhead to a final belt drive
Mullie Motors offers complete kits for the conversion of (late) shovelheads from final chain drive to final belt drive. These kits range from entry level containing the bare necessities to complete kits that are bolt-on. Of course, these kits can be tailored to your wishes. - Budget kit: This kit contains the bare necessities to convert to a rear belt drive. You re-use as many parts from your chain drive set-up as possible. On some of these parts you will have to do some machining to make them fit for a rear belt drive. Also, you may have to widen your swing-arm, depending on the width of the final belt you want to use. A stock chain-drive swing-arm can be used if you use a 1" belt and a 1" properly spaced rear pulley. Most parts in this kit are used. The kit contains:
- An inner primary for a final belt drive (no gaskets, seals or bearings).
- A complete starter housing and axis set-up (including gaskets), except for the parts that can be re-used from your chain drive (such as the bendix gear and retaining ring).
- A shifter lever.
- A transmission pulley.
- A rear wheel pulley.
- A drive belt.
You will have to adapt your rear chain drive clutch hub and (perhaps) your outer primary cover to accomodate the different starter setup (or we can do this for you, see here). - Basic kit: This kit provides all the necessities to convert your shovelhead to a final belt drive as equipped from the factory. It includes a belt-drive swingarm, and comes with a belt and pulley width of your choice (a stock 1-1/2", or a narrower one to allow wider tires):
- A bare inner primary for a final belt drive (no gaskets, seals or bearings).
- A complete starter housing and axis set-up (including gaskets), except for the parts that can be re-used from your chain drive (such as the bendix gear and retaining ring).
- A shifter lever.
- A transmission pulley.
- A rear wheel pulley and spacer.
- A drive belt.
- A belt-drive swingarm.
- A belt-drive rear wheel axle and left side spacer.
- A belt guard.

It comes with all necessary parts, all bearings, gaskets, etc. Most parts in this kit are used (except for gaskets and bearings if necessary), but they can optionally be upgraded for new parts if desired. Belt and pulley sizes and widths can be accomodated to your wishes.
- A complete inner primary for a final belt drive (including gaskets, seals and bearings, mounted shifter lever and screw).
- A complete starter housing and axis set-up ready to be installed (including gaskets).
- A transmission pulley.
- A rear wheel pulley and spacer.
- A drive belt.
- A belt-drive swingarm.
- A belt-drive rear wheel axle and left side spacer.
- A belt guard.
- A clutch shell converted for rear belt drive.
- Optionally an outer primary suitable for final belt drive.
